August 30 (Reuters) – The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said on Saturday that he will issue an executive order to require the identification of the voters of each voter.

“The identification of voters must be part of each vote. There are no exceptions! I will make an executive order for that purpose!” Trump said about Truth Social.

“In addition, there is no vote by mail, except those who are very sick and the distant military,” he added.

Trump has long questioned the electoral system of the United States and continues to falsely affirming that his loss of 2020 against Democratic President Joe Biden was the result of generalized fraud. The president and his Republican allies have also made statements without foundation about the generalized vote by non -citizens, which is illegal and rarely occurs.

For years, it has also requested the end of electronic voting machines, pressing instead the use of paper ballots and hand counts, a process that electoral officials say that it is slow, expensive and much less precise than the machine count.

At the beginning of August, Trump promised to issue an executive order to end the use of ballots by mail and voting machines before the mid -period elections of 2026. However, federal elections are administered at the state level and it is not clear if the President has the constitutional power to promulgate such a measure.

The elections of November 3, 2026 will be the first national referendum on Trump’s national and foreign policies since he returned to power in January. The Democrats will seek to break the control of the Republicans on the House of Representatives and the Senate to block the National Agenda of Trump.
