Trump spews eternal grievances like

President Donald Trump reportedly turned his performance hosting the Kennedy Center Honors into an over-the-top 12-minute monologue that ultimately took aim at one of his favorite targets: “fake news.”

“Now I will say that I guarantee you that fake news is going to give me a horrible feeling. [reviews]” he said (according to Deadline) at Sunday’s taping, which will air Dec. 23 on News.

“‘I was horrible as an MC. Don’t let that happen again. Don’t ever let this happen,” Trump continued, citing the imagined criticism. “But I guarantee you one thing: We’re going to get big ratings tonight.”

Trump, who made multiple appearances on stage, called the ceremony “the biggest night in the history of the Kennedy Center.” At one point, he called the place “The Trump Kennedy Center,” a reference to his apparent desire to rename the complex after his own name. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he said, feigning embarrassment.

The president also mentioned one of the great television presenters as his role model.

“They say this is the first time a president of the United States has hosted this phenomenal event,” Trump said. “…I don’t know why. I’m going to try to act like Johnny Carson. I miss Johnny.”

He also attempted to roast the crowd on a night when Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, the band Kiss, George Strait and Michael Crawford were honored.

“If there is one thread that connects all of these incredible artists, it is the word persistence,” Trump said. “I can say that with a lot of our audience members. I know a lot of you. You’re persistent. A lot of you are miserable, horrible people. You’re persistent. You never give up. Sometimes I wish you’d give up, but you don’t.”

Apparently, rehearsing was not part of their stage strategy.

“I didn’t prepare much,” Trump said on the red carpet. “I have a good memory.”

He also limited himself to criticizing Jimmy Kimmel and former President Joe Biden.

He ranked Kimmel, a persistent critic whom the president’s FCC allegedly helped temporarily take off the air, among the “not so great.”

“It was terrible,” Trump said. Kimmel never hosted the Kennedy Center Honors, although he did make an appearance to honor David Letterman.

Asked if any previous president could have taken on MC duties, Trump said, “I would say the last one wouldn’t have done very well…John F. Kennedy would have done a very good job, overall.”

Gene Simmons of Kiss may have gotten the most ironic statement of the night:

“Whether you’re a fan of the president or not, it’s never boring. The worst thing is when a bloated person comes up and makes long speeches. No matter what he does, this president will be entertaining.”

Trump’s MAGA transformation of the arts institution included his installation as board president.

And now he just hosted an awards show for a network he recently sued and got a settlement from.
