Donald Trump adopted a new nickname Tuesday, proclaiming himself “Mr. Tariff” in a Truth Social post that left critics embarrassed.

“US markets just hit another ALL-TIME HIGH – ALL!!!” the president boasted, before giving credence to his controversial trade policies: “THANK YOU MR. TARIFF!!!”

The White House leaned into the brand later that day, sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) that appeared to depict Trump as a Mr. Clean-style figure.

“THANK YOU, MR. TARIFF!” the title read, along with the slogan: “There’s no trade like Mr. Tariff.” See the post here.

The posts sparked some reactions online.

Critics called the nickname and images “embarrassing,” noted that the cost of living remains high, accused Trump of making life “more difficult and unaffordable for all Americans except the rich,” and complained that the country is being “ruled by children.”
