Tucker Carlson said fears of “radical Islam” in the United States are wildly exaggerated and blamed Israel for fomenting fears about Muslims in an interview published Friday.

“I don’t know anyone in the United States who in the last 24 years has been murdered by radical Islam,” the former News host told The American Conservative, presumably alluding to the September 11, 2001, attacks.

“I know a lot of people who have committed suicide,” he continued. “I know people who have died from drug overdoses, more than a few. I know people who can’t get jobs. None of the kids in my daughter’s class can get jobs, none of those white kids can get jobs. They’re being destroyed by Adderall, video games and porn. I see millions of Americans being destroyed, and none of it is at the hands of radical Islam.”

He went on to suggest that the Onlyfans platform is a greater danger than so-called radical Islam, claiming that it is “turning a huge percentage of American women into prostitutes.”

“Actually, that’s not radical Islam doing that,” he said. “So I feel sorry for anyone who believes that lie. But it doesn’t reflect the lived reality of anyone I’ve ever met in the United States.”

Calling himself a “close observer,” he added: “I think that’s crazy.”

Carlson’s comments came in response to the results of an informal survey conducted at a Turning Point USA conference earlier this month. Attendees at the conservative event were asked what they considered the biggest threat facing the United States, and the top answer was “radical Islam.” In the new interview, Carlson was asked where he thinks “those feelings” come from.

“It comes, of course, from the Israeli government and its many supporters and informal employees in the United States,” he responded.

However, in recent years, Carlson himself has stoked fears about Islam. In 2017, he said that “violent terrorism” was “inevitable in Europe” because “there are many more Muslims living in Europe now.”

However, more recently he condemned Islamophobia, calling it “disgusting” during a speech at the Turning Point USA conference.

Carlson’s new comments were polarizing to the right. Some critics on social media accused him of overlooking acts of terrorism committed by Muslim extremists in the United States since 9/11, including the Boston Marathon bombing and the Pulse nightclub shooting. Meghan McCain mocked him, joking: “We’re like 3 months away from Tucker Carlson telling everyone you’re a warmongering neocon if you don’t convert to Islam.”

Others supported him, including former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who posted a photo of herself with Carlson and wrote, “I’ve seen a lot of America Last accounts attacking Tucker, so I’m making it clear that I am proudly friends with Tucker Carlson.”
