Victoria Beckham defends Nepo babies as she shares son Cruz’s career ambitions
Victoria Beckham would like people to be kinder to the children of public figures like her.
The former Spice Girl addressed the hot topic of “nepotistic babies” while speaking to British outlet The Sun last week to promote her Netflix documentary series, “Victoria Beckham.”
At one point in the interview, Beckham talked about his 20-year-old son, Cruz Beckham, who wants to follow in his footsteps and carve out a career in the music industry.
“He taught himself to play about seven instruments. He writes his own songs and formed a band,” he told the outlet. “He’s done it right from the bottom up.”
But when journalist Clemmie Moodie suggested that Cruz Beckham “wasn’t a traditional nepo baby,” his mother responded: “But he is a nepo.”

“I mean, I feel sorry for these kids who are considered nepo babies,” he explained. “Children are just their parents’ children. It’s not their fault. Give them a chance. What matters is that people are good and kind. It’s okay to be ambitious, but it’s more important to be kind.”
Alluding specifically to Cruz Beckham, he added: “Let the music speak for itself before you judge.”
Victoria Beckham has been married to British soccer legend David Beckham since 1999. In addition to Cruz, the couple share sons Brooklyn, 26, and Romeo, 23, and daughter Harper, 14.
The term “nepotism babies” or “nepo babies” refers to the children of actors, singers, and other public figures whose professional success, typically in entertainment, is perceived as a byproduct of having famous and wealthy parents.
