Whoopi Goldberg has a stern message for both Republicans and Democrats amid the current government shutdown.

As “The View” hosts were engaged in a heated debate Wednesday over the egregious conditions imposed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for journalists to access the Pentagon, Goldberg weighed in with a suggestion for lawmakers who find themselves in an impasse while government workers are furloughed.

“I want to make a suggestion, because you know, we’re still in the middle of a shutdown,” Goldberg began. “I have a suggestion: I would like Republicans and Democrats to come together and decide that they are not going to take away their salaries.”

Goldberg’s statement was met with applause.

“Because… until this affects you the same way it affects your constituents, you are not going to solve this. So, as an American, I ask you not to take a salary until you solve this,” he concluded.

Goldberg said she’s confident she’s not the only one with this mindset.

Early in the conversation, as the “View” hosts discussed Hegseth’s media plans, co-host Joy Behar stated that she believes the Secretary of Defense is not qualified to do his job and said he is a “problem” for the nation.

Co-host Alyssa Farah echoed Behar’s sentiments, saying the right would be up in arms if the Pentagon had made similar demands on journalists under a Democratic presidential administration.

As Farah concluded her thoughts, fellow panelist Sunny Hostin questioned what Hegseth could be trying to hide from the press.

Behar quickly responded: “Their incompetence.”
